In the message we heard about Israel’s desire for stability, safety, and an assurance of hope for the future. They wanted a season of rest and shalom in the presence God, much like they probably imagined Eden was like before the Fall. Solomon proceeded to construct the Temple for God to dwell in, and that became the vehicle for shalom that they had hoped for! Israel experienced an unprecedented moment in their history with God’s presence at the center. At the Dedication God responded to Solomon’s prayer to affirm his requests. However, he warned Solomon not to deviate from his commands and not to serve other gods, otherwise Israel could be cut off from their land and the temple.
